Establishing Photograph: The townhouse

(Suffering from the Thirst, Louis paces the room with agitation.)

[Louis:]
Not... not yet... not until I'm blind with hunger... not until it overtakes my reason...

(He sits down, fists to his temples, to keep himself from going out. LESTAT enters.)

[Lestat:]
Louis.

(LOUIS doesn't look up.)

I've brought someone to meet you.

(LOUIS looks up curiously. CLAUDIA enters. At ten years old, she is just on the verge of puberty. She is calm, her face is pale but her eyes glow with cold fire. A vampire's eyes. LOUIS is horrified.)

[Louis:]
What have you done?

[Lestat:]
She was orphaned.

(CLAUDIA looks around the room with awe.)

[Claudia:]
Do you live here?

[Lestat:]
Yes, we do. And now you live here too.

(She gasps with delight and runs around looking and touching.)

[to Louis] I couldn't leave her to wander the streets. It's not safe.

[Louis:]
Bastard!

[Lestat:]
Tsk, Louis. Such language in front of your daughter.

[Louis:]
Damn you, Lestat. I will have no part of this!

(CLAUDIA approaches LOUIS.)

[Claudia:]
Why are you angry?

[Louis:]
I am not angry with you.

[Claudia:]
The angel said you would like me.

[Louis:]
Angel?

(She points to LESTAT.)

[Claudia:]
The angel told me that you would look after me now that mother is gone.

(LOUIS glares at LESTAT who shrugs sheepishly.)

[Louis:]
What's your name?

[Claudia:]
Claudia.

(Softening, he pulls back the hair from her face gently.)

[Louis:]
Such a pretty face.

[Claudia:]
Will you? Look after me?

[Louis:]
Of course. Of course, I will.

(He takes out his kerchief and wipes her face. She sighs with contentment.)

[Claudia:]
I have never had a father before.

[Lestat:]
And now you have two.

(LOUIS glares at LESTAT as the scene transforms to CLAUDIA'S bedroom.)
